Randy Pope and Jerry Pruitt, North Carolina natives, claimed the top prize using Stren Microfuse at the Southern Crappie Association’s (SCA) tournament April 26.
They brought in a limit and vaulted into 1st place with 11-pounds, 11-ounces of fish. The win on North Carolina’s Tillery and Baden Lakes earned the Pope and Pruitt team $1,100 in cash and prizes.
Pope and Pruitt were fishing with Stren Microfuse because of its invisible presentation to crappie that can be extremely line sensitive. Microfuse also features the strength and durability needed when the crappie are holding under docks and close to timber. Stren Microfuse is ideal for spinning tackle when delicate presentations are required. Thermally fused, Microfuse is nearly invisible under water, but is UV activated to actually fluoresce in cloudy or sunny daylight. This above water visibility gave the pair of anglers the ability to see the lightest of strikes.
The SCA is a non-profit organization that caters to the ever-increasing competitiveness of Crappie fishermen, women and children throughout the Southeastern United States. Tournaments begin in late-summer/ early-fall and last through April of the following year. The month of May brings the season finale, which is the two-day Southern Crappie Association Classic where qualified members compete for more cash and prizes than is offered in any other single crappie tournament.
